OMG! When a four-letter word sets off a political PR nightmare, seven take-charge women have 24 hours to keep the President—and the rest of the free world—from falling apart.
Nominated for three Tony Awards, the hilariously unruly and pointedly profane POTUS plays in the Firemen’s Kitchen at HCT from October 20th through November 4th.
Returning to the Hickory Community Theatre stage as Bernadette, the President's trouble-making sibling, is two-time Kay Award winner Jill Roberts.
A resident of Lenoir, Roberts previously served in the United States Air Force and currently works as a Phlebotomist for LabCorp. When not involved in theatre, Roberts enjoys reading and spending time with her family.
Roberts made a Kay Award-winning (for Outstanding Newcomer) debut at Hickory Community Theatre as Marcellus/Player Queen in HAMLET. Other notable HCT roles include Thorin Oakenshield in THE HOBBIT, part of the Kay Award-winning Ensemble in THE CURIOUS INCIDENT OF THE DOG IN THE NIGHTTIME, Queen Elizabeth in SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE, Gladys in MEMPHIS, and most recently The Mayor/Ensemble in ROCK OF AGES.
Roberts has also won multiple Willy Awards for her work at Foothills Performing Arts, in such productions as SEUSSICAL, DOUBT, TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD, ALMOST MAINE, and OLD LADY'S GUIDE TO SURVIVAL. Other area appearances include MACBETH at The Green Room Community Theatre, and THE ODD COUPLE (FEMALE VERSION) at Theatre Statesville.
"This script is hilarious," says Roberts, who relishes the "lack of filter and brutal honesty" of her character in POTUS. She is grateful to be back on stage at HCT, where it always "feels like family."
Performances of POTUS are Fridays and Saturdays, October 20th through November 4th at 7:30 PM; Sundays, October 22nd and 29th at 2:30 PM; and, Thursday, November 2nd at 7:30 PM. Tickets are $16 for adults, $10 for youth and students.
Tickets are available online at hickorytheatre.org, or by phone at 828-328-2283. The theatre box office is open from 12-5 PM Wednesday through Friday, or one half-hour before a performance.
POTUS is rated R for strong language and adult situations. Consider yourself warned. Anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
POTUS is produced in association with Dad's Garage. The Hickory Community Theatre’s 75th season is sponsored by Paramount Automotive, SunBelt Xpress and Green Park Dentistry. HCT is a funded affiliate of the United Arts Council of Catawba County.
