In the summer of 1892, the town of Fall River, Massachusetts is in shock when Lizzie Borden is accused of murdering her father and stepmother with an axe.

A landmark event in American popular culture, this true crime tale comes to life in the powerful rock opera (chopera?) LIZZIE, which plays in the Firemen's Kitchen at Hickory Community Theatre from May 2nd through May 24th.

She will...she will...rock us! Returning to the HCT stage as Alice Russell, Lizzie Borden's more-than neighborly lover, is Kay Award winner Lucy Weaver.

A self-employed performer, Weaver holds a Bachelor's Degree in Classical Vocal Performance from the University of North Carolina-Asheville. She enjoys playing video games, practicing on multiple musical instruments, pursuing pole dance/fitness, and palling around with her pets Sunny and Venus.

Weaver has previously performer at HCT in ANASTASIA, ROCK OF AGES, MACBETH, THE DROWSY CHAPERONE, THE PIRATE QUEEN—for which she earned a Kay Award for Outstanding Leading Female—SOMETHING ROTTEN, EVITA and DISENCHANTED. Other areas credit in Foothills Performing Arts productions of ANNIE and GODSPELL, for which Weaver won a Willy Award for Best Character Actress.

"LIZZIE is one of my favorites! I discovered it a while back while looking for more rock musicals, and instantly fell in love with the music, its take on the legend of Lizzie Borden, and Alice’s complexity as a character and as a vocal role."

"This is where I was raised basically," says Weaver of her creative journey at HCT. "I’ve learned so much here and wouldn’t be the same person without this place."

Performances of LIZZIE are Fridays and Saturdays, May 2nd through May 24th at 7:30 PM; Sundays, May 4th and 11th at 2:30 PM; and, Thursday, May 15th at 7:30 PM. Tickets are $18 for adults, $12 for youth and students.

Tickets are available online at hickorytheatre.org, or by phone at 828-328-2283. The theatre box office is open from 12-5 PM Wednesday through Friday, or one half-hour before a performance.

CONTENT WARNING: LIZZIE contains loud noises, flashing lights, haze, foul language, blood, and references to murder and sexual abuse. Patrons under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
