At its core, Hairspray is about love, laughter, and the power of believing in yourself. This smash-hit musical proves that when the music plays and the hairspray flies, anything is possible.
Based on John Waters' 1988 cult film, and transformed for the stage by the Tony Award-winning team of Mark O'Donnell and Thomas Meehan, the musical Hairspray continues bopping into the Jeffers Theatre through September 20th.
Returning to the Pamela Livingstone stage for his sixth production in 16 months is Angel Rojas as Seaweed J. Stubbs.
Rojas made his HCT debut in May 2024 as Golden Thunder in Airness in the Firemen's Kitchen, for which he received an Outstanding Newcomer Kay Award. A resident of Conover, Rojas can often be found serving up lots of laughs and lattes at Starbucks. He is pursuing studies in computer science at Catawba Valley Community College, and enjoys film-making, writing, and video games when not working of performing on stage.
When asked to choose his cast superlative, Rojas said he's the actor to most likely to, "be the embodiment of sunshine and fun!"
Hairspray is suitable for ages 10 and up. Tickets are $18 for adults and $12 for students/youth 18 & under, available at hickorytheatre.org or 828-328-2283. Hairspray is produced in association with MoreRon Productions.
