At its core, Hairspray is about love, laughter, and the power of believing in yourself. This smash-hit musical proves that when the music plays and the hairspray flies, anything is possible.
Based on John Waters' 1988 cult film, and transformed for the stage by the Tony Award-winning team of Mark O'Donnell and Thomas Meehan, the musical Hairspray continues through September 20th in the Jeffers Theatre.
Zaida Yates is ready to bring sass and sparkle to the stage as Little Inez. “Her personality challenges my vocals — but I love it,” she says.
A 9th grader at Caldwell Early College High School, Zaida has lived in Hickory her whole life and loves the variety of shows at HCT. Her past credits include Moana in Moana Jr., Mama Morton in Chicago Teen, and roles in Elf. Outside of theatre, she’s active in Beta Club, plays tennis, sings, dances, and loves traveling. Known for her endless energy, Zaida says she’s the actor most likely to never stop singing.
Hairspray runs September 5-20 in the Jeffers Theatre, Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30pm, Sundays at 2:30pm and Thursday, September 18 at 7:30pm. Tickets are $18 for adults and $12 for students and youth 18 & under. Visit hickorytheatre.org/hairspray or call 828-328-2283 to get yours today. Hairspray is produced in association with MoreRon Productions.
