Scurius considers himself the greatest of grey squirrels. But when this once-revered leader turns his bushy back on the needs of the starving fox squirrels, the resulting strife and scheming threatens to split the very tree Scurius and his family call home.
A dark, timely satire about the perils of economic inequality, THE SQUIRRELS finishes its Firemen's Kitchen run October 31st through November 2nd.
Returning to the stage as the fierce-but-forgiving squirrel matriarch Mammalia, is multi-Kay Award winner Jill Roberts.
A resident of Lenoir, Roberts works as a Phlebotomist for LabCorp. When not involved in theatre, Roberts enjoys reading and spending time with her family. She made her HCT debut as Marcellus/Player Queen in HAMLET, for which she won a Kay Award for Outstanding Newcomer. Most recently she appeared as Bernadette in POTUS. That performance won Roberts a Kay Award for Outstanding Featured Performer in a Play, and contributed to the production winning a Pamela Livingstone Outstanding Ensemble Award. Other HCT credits include roles in THE HOBBIT, as part of the Kay Award-winning Ensemble in THE CURIOUS INCIDENT OF THE DOG IN THE NIGHTTIME, SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE, MEMPHIS, and ROCK OF AGES.
Roberts has also won multiple Willy Awards for her work at Foothills Performing Arts, in such productions as SEUSSICAL, DOUBT, TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD, ALMOST MAINE, and OLD LADY'S GUIDE TO SURVIVAL. Other area appearances include MACBETH at The Green Room Community Theatre, and THE ODD COUPLE (FEMALE VERSION) at Theatre Statesville.
"Mammalia's kind of a badass in the squirrel world," says an appreciative Roberts, who is also grateful to be back on stage at HCT. "It's my second home!"
