Charlie Bucket and his family live in poverty. But their fortunes change for the fantastical when a coveted Golden Ticket gets Charlie inside the factory of candy inventor Willy Wonka. A new musical adaptation of Roald Dahl’s masterpiece, CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY is a sweet and salty fable of about doing what's right with life's chances. It finishes its HCT run this weekend, December 12th—14th.
Making her first appearance on the Pamela Livingstone Stage, after an unexpected debut on the Firemen's Kitchen stage, is Oompa Loompa member Emma Siebert.
Hailing from Flowery Branch, Georgia, Siebert moved to Hickory to attend Lenoir-Rhyne University and pursue more theatre opportunities. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Theatre & Psychology, and most recently appeared in the LR Playmakers production of FUN HOME. Having worked with CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY director Ethan Fite on a production of FOOTLOOSE for Theatre Statesville, Siebert then took on stage manager responsibilities for HCT's recent production of THE SQUIRRELS. It was during that production that Siebert was called upon to step in for one of the cast members, cementing her contributions both off and on the stage.
Siebert, who describes herself at "the actor most likely to show up earlier than anyone else," has certainly used that extra time to sharpen her skills as a dancer in this production. And she is grateful for the warm welcome she has gotten from the HCT community, both on and off the stage.
Performances of CHARLIE & THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY are Thursday, Friday and Saturday, December 12th-14th at 7:30PM. Tickets are $18 for adults, $12 for youth and students.
Tickets are available online at hickorytheatre.org, or by phone at 828-328-2283. The theatre box office is open from 12-5 PM Wednesday through Friday, or one half-hour before a performance.
