A new musical adaptation of Roald Dahl’s masterpiece, CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY is a sweet and salty fable of about doing what's right with life's opportunities. It plays in the Jeffers Theatre at HCT November 29th through December 14th.
From political revolutions to alien apocalypse, Sarah Deutsch has seen it all. Here, she returns to the Jeffers as the voluble and volatile Veruca Salt.
Originally from the Steel City—Pittsburgh, PA—Deutsch currently calls Statesville her home. She holds a Masters Degree in Physics from Cornell University, and is working towards her PhD in the same field. When not contemplating quantum spacetime, dark matter, and Bose-Einstein condensation, Deutsch is a competitive pole dancer and avid rock climber who enjoys sewing in her free time.
Deutsch made her HCT debut in ANASTASIA, and most recently appeared in THE GUY WHO DIDN'T LIKE MUSICALS. She is partnering with CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY director Ethan Fite on an upcoming production of HEATHERS: THE MUSICAL that will appear at HCT this February. Other area credits include FOOTLOOSE at Theatre Statesville, as well as LIZZIE and THE BEST LITTLE WHOREHOUSE IN TEXAS at Lee Street Theatre.
For Deutsch, her motivation to audition for this show actually began during HCT's previous season. "I was excited by all of the dancing in CHARLIE & THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY, especially after seeing Charlotte Dick's choreography [for IN THE HEIGHTS]."
Performances of CHARLIE & THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY are Fridays and Saturdays, November 29th through December 14th at 7:30PM; Sundays, December 1st and 8th at 2:30PM, and, Thursday, December 12th at 7:30PM. Tickets are $18 for adults, $12 for youth and students.
Tickets are available online at hickorytheatre.org, or by phone at 828-328-2283. The theatre box office is open from 12-5 PM Wednesday through Friday, or one half-hour before a performance.
CHARLIE & THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY is rated PG. Some material may not be suitable for children. Parental guidance is suggested.
