"It only takes a taste when it's something special."

Stranded in their lives as small town waitresses, pie artiste Jenna and her coworkers can only dream of the life and love they really want. But when an area baking contest, and surprising new love interest, gives Jenna the chance to start over, what follows is heartwarming tale of dreams followed to the fullest.

Based on the beloved film, the Broadway musical sensation WAITRESS is cooking up an unforgettable experience at Hickory Community Theatre, June 6th through June 21st.

Making his Hickory Community Theatre debut in this production, as the awkwardly endearing Dr. Pomatter, is Hayden Waugh.

A resident of Mooresville, Waugh holds a Bachelors in Broadcast Media degree from Appalachian State University, and works as a Communications and Marketing Operations Specialist for Trane Technologies. He is a Middle School Leader at Storyhill Church, and enjoys baking, reading, and playing tennis in his free time.

Though this is first show at Hickory Community Theatre, Waugh has already been stealing the spotlight in such area productions at THE MUSIC MAN for Piedmont Players, GODSPELL for Lee St. Theatre, and 9 TO 5, LEGALLY BLONDE, and THE 25TH ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE FOR Davidson Community Players.

"I got to catch this show years ago in NYC and fell in love with the music," says Waugh what drew him to WAITRESS and Dr. Pomatter, "I love that no matter how messy things get, you can still turn your life into something beautiful. And, I love how sincere and quirky Pomatter is. He is so sweet-natured but has a way of making nearly every interaction as awkward as possible, which is very fun to play into."

Waugh is equally drawn to this, his first experience at hickory Community Theatre. "The history! I'm sure if the walls could talk, they would have a lot to say. Or sing."

Performances of WAITRESS are Fridays and Saturdays, June 6th through June 21st at 7:30 PM; Sundays, June 8th and 15th at 2:30 PM; and, Thursday, June 19th at 7:30 PM. Tickets are $18 for adults, $12 for youth and students.

Tickets are available online at hickorytheatre.org, or by phone at 828-328-2283. The theatre box office is open from 12-5 PM Wednesday through Friday, or one half-hour before a performance.

WAITRESS is rated PG-13. Some material may not be suitable for children under 13.

WAITRESS is produced in association with Alex Lee, Inc. The Hickory Community Theatre’s 76th season is sponsored by A Cleaner World, Belle Age, Covington Dental, LifeRootz, Protection Products, Inc., and Shurtape Technologies.
