"When it's done
I can smile
It's on someone else's plate for a while"
Trapped in a dead-end job and an abusive marriage, small town diner waitress Jenna finds escape in making crowd-pleasing pies. But when Jenna signs up for a high-profile baking contest, she'll need all the support of her straight-talking coworkers and quirky costumers for a true chance at a new life.
Bursting with joyful songs that will warm your heart and belly, the Tony-nominated musical WAITRESS continues its extended run at HCT through June 28th.
Setting aside (but never surrendering) her love of cake in this pie-apalooza production, is Ensemble member Katie Stone.
Stone holds an Associate of Arts Degree from Cleveland Community College. She is a retail manager and social media maven for Kings Mountain-based Imperial Mercantile, as well as a highly in-demand photographer. When not working or performing, Stone spends a not insignificant amount of free time dreaming of the day that she finally wins a Kay Award for performing at Hickory Community Theatre.
Stone previously appeared at HCT in productions of BARBECUE, EXIT PURSUED BY A BEAR, ROCK OF AGES, THE CAKE, and PUFFS. Other area performance credits include LIBERTY MOUNTAIN–THE REVOLUTIONARY DRAMA, and her turnip-tastic work with The Green Room Community Theatre Green Bean Players. In addition to her acting, Stone has also garnered kudos for her direction of POTUS at Hickory Community Theatre, which earned a Pamela Livingstone Outstanding Ensemble Award.
Kay-adjacent for now, Stone remains hopeful of her chances to win her very own award. In the meantime, she'll help herself to another slice of "Hope The Audience Falls In Love With Me So I Can Scream My Head Off At The Kay Awards Pie".
Performances of WAITRESS are Fridays and Saturdays, June 20th through June 28st at 7:30 PM; and, Thursdays, June 19th and June 26th at 7:30 PM. Tickets are $18 for adults, $12 for youth and students.
