"I'm the Witch
You're the world
I'm the hitch
I'm what no one believes"
Can a witch do wrong if she's the one who's been wronged? Such are the dark, challenging questions asked in INTO THE WOODS, the Tony-winning musical—inspired by the fables of the Brothers Grimm—that plays in HCT's Jeffers Theatre, June 5th through June 20th.
Returning to HCT in this spellbinding production, as the Witch who challenges the world's misconceptions of "right" and "wrong", is MTA Award winner Amy McKay.
Originally hailing from Connecticut, McKay is currently a Mooresville resident who works as a Medical Social Worker. She holds a Master's Degree from New York University.
McKay made her Hickory Community Theatre debut as the cocktail-loving, scene-stealing title character in THE DROWSY CHAPERONE. A 2023 Metrolina Theatre Association Best Actress Award winner, McKay's extensive area credits include NEXT TO NORMAL and COMPANY at Theatre Statesville, 42ND STREET and THE 25TH ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE for the Davidson Community Players, RUTHLESS! at Old Courthouse Theater, and GRAND NIGHT FOR SINGING at Theatre Charlotte.
"INTO THE WOODS is one of my all-time favorite Stephen Sondheim shows. The Witch is a complex character who is fun to portray," says McKay, who remains impressed by HCT's "level of professionalism and high-quality theatre."
Performances of INTO THE WOODS are Fridays and Saturdays, June 12th through June 20th at 7:30pm; Sunday, June 14th at 2:30pm; and Thursday, June 18th at 7:30pm.
Tickets are $18 for adults and $12 for youth and students. The production is recommended for ages 13 and up. Tickets are available at hickorytheatre.org or by calling 828‑328‑2283.
INTO THE WOODS is produced in association with Catawba Valley Health Systems. Hickory Community Theatre is a funded affiliate of Arts Culture Catawba and receives sustaining support from the North Carolina Arts Council, a division of the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources. Season 77 support is provided by the City of Hickory, A Cleaner World, Shurtape Technologies, Acuña & Acuña Dentistry, and BellaAge.
