This Magic Moment: Emily Mady plays the Baker's Wife in INTO THE WOODS

"Must it be either less or more

Either plain or grand?

Is it always "or"?

Is it never "and"?"

So ponders the under-appreciated Baker's Wife in INTO THE WOODS, Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's Tony-winning musical meditation on life at the intersection of magic and morality. It plays in the Jeffers Theatre at HCT June 12th through June 20th.

Returning to the Pamela Livingstone Stage in this production as the Baker's Wife, is Emily Mady.

Mady, an Elementary Music Teacher for Catawba County Schools, holds a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education from Wingate University. She enjoys reading and painting, as well as playing with cats and jigsaw puzzles (At the same time? Maybe,) in her free time. Being the good educator she is, Mady describes herself as the cast member "most likely to know everyone's lines and lyrics."

Mady made her HCT debut as an Ensemble member in A GENTLEMAN'S GUIDE TO LOVE & MURDER. She more recently appeared in the Jeffers Theatre as an Ensemble member in HAIRSPRAY. Other area appearances include PRIDE AND PREJUDICE and MAMMA MIA! at Green Room Community Theatre, as well as A TIME TO KILL and HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL for Foothills Performing Arts.

"I performed this show my senior year of high school and it has always held a dear place in my heart," says Mady of her longtime affinity for INTO THE WOODS. "The Baker's Wife is passionate, determined and opinionated. She is never held back by others!"

Performances of INTO THE WOODS are Fridays and Saturdays, June 12th through June 20th at 7:30pm; Sunday, June 14th at 2:30pm; and Thursday, June 18th at 7:30pm.

Tickets are $18 for adults and $12 for youth and students. The production is recommended for ages 13 and up. Tickets are available at hickorytheatre.org or by calling 828‑328‑2283.
