Ties That Bind: Thelma E. Eley is Barbara in BARBECUE

Two antagonistic families battling the forces of addiction converge in Robert O'Hara's acerbic social satire BARBECUE, which finishes its run this weekend in the Firemen's Kitchen at HCT, March 7th-9th.

Returning to the HCT stage as Barbara, the self-destructive sibling known as "Zippity Boom," is Thelma E. Eley.

Eley, originally from Garysburg, NC, relocated to Hickory from Omaha, Nebraska almost two decades ago, and now works as a Strategic Sourcing Manager for CBRE, Inc. She holds a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from East Carolina University, is a member of the Hickory Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and serves on HCT's Board of Directors. In her free time she enjoys reading, traveling, playing board games, and being with friends and family.

Eley last appeared at Hickory Community Theatre as Margaret, a feisty First Lady, in POTUS. Other HCT credits include KINKY BOOTS, THE COLOR PURPLE, AIN'T MISBEHAVIN', THE WIZ and CROWNS, for which she won a Kay Award for Outstanding Character Actress.

Eley applauds, and is an important collaborator to, HCT's ongoing mission to create "the opportunity for so many talented individuals to perform and positively impact our communities."

All remaining performances of BARBECUE are currently SOLD OUT. If you would like to be placed on a wait list in the rare event that tickets become available, please contact the Hickory Community Theatre by phone at 828-328-2283. Please be aware that you may be notified at the last minute. The theatre box office is open from 12-5 PM Wednesday through Friday, or one half-hour before a performance.

BARBECUE is rated R for adult language and mature subject matter.

The Hickory Community Theatre’s 75th season is sponsored by Paramount Automotive, SunBelt Xpress and Green Park Dentistry. HCT is a funded affiliate of the United Arts Council of Catawba County.
