HCT is launching its own chapter of The Penguin Project. These productions are incredibly unique because all of the roles are filled by young artists with developmental disabilities. The student actors are joined on stage by a dedicated group of peer mentors; children about the same age without disabilities who have volunteered to work with them throughout the rehearsal process.
Featuring memorable songs such as “Just Keep Swimming,” “Fish Are Friends Not Food,” and “Go With the Flow,” FINDING NEMO JR. brings a vibrant underwater world to life on stage in a story full of family, friendship, and adventure.

Written by Mart Crowley and premiering in 1968, this bold, witty, and emotional story centers on a group of gay friends gathering for a birthday party in New York City. What begins as a night of celebration slowly unravels into an unflinching exploration of identity, friendship, and self-acceptance. At a time when LGBTQ+ voices were rarely heard on stage, The Boys in the Band dared to tell an honest and unapologetic story, one that remains powerful and relevant today.
THE BOYS IN THE BAND will be performed in the Firemen's Kitchen at The Hickory Community Theatre
