From album to stage to screen, Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR has enraptured audiences with its unique musical take on the life, works, and death of Jesus.
Now, for your Lent-ertainment, the iconic rock opera finishes its run at HCT this weekend, April 17th through April 19th.
Returning to HCT in this production is Ensemble member Zakiyah Williams. A Senior at Catawba Valley Community College, Williams enjoys thrifting and making earrings and keychains when not studying or performing.
Williams previously appeared at HCT in MEMPHIS. Other area performances include productions of BY THE WAY, MEET VERA STARK, ONCE ON THIS ISLAND, THE LIGHTNING THIEF and BEAUTIFUL: THE CAROLE KING MUSICAL with the Green Room Community Theatre, where she has also worked backstage for such shows as SHREK JR., DRACULA: A COMEDY OF TERRORS, and MATILDA.
For Williams, who considers herself "the actor most likely to break into song" at any moment, being involved in JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR is a wish come true and a creative challenge accepted. "I love shows from the 70s. I've always wanted to do a rock opera, and I get to sing and dance a lot in this one."
Performances of JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR are this Thursday, Friday and Saturday, April 17th through April 19th at 7:30 PM. Tickets are $18 for adults, $12 for youth and students.
Tickets are available online at hickorytheatre.org, or by phone at 828-328-2283. The theatre box office is open from 12-5 PM Wednesday through Friday, or one half-hour before a performance.
JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR is rated PG-13. Some material may not be appropriate for children under 13.
JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR is produced in association with MOReON Productions. The Hickory Community Theatre’s 76th season is sponsored by A Cleaner World, Belle Age, Covington Dental, LifeRootz, Protection Products, Inc., and Shurtape Technologies. HCT is a Funded Affiliate of Arts Culture Catawba and receives additional support from the North Carolina Arts Council, a division of the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources.
