Ties That Bind: Kathy Walker plays Marie in BARBECUE

Tough love and a healthy serving of family dysfunction are on the menu in Robert O'Hara's raucous comedy BARBECUE, which concludes its run in the Firemen's Kitchen at HCT this weekend, March 7th-9th.

Returning to the Hickory Community Theatre stage as Marie is Kay Award winner Kathy Walker.

Walker moved to the area over twenty years ago and resides in Statesville. She holds a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting and a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership, is an educator in the Iredell-Statesville Schools system, and was voted NC Assistant Principal of the Year in 2019. She is also a member of the NAACP and the Juneteenth Committee Statesville. When not working as an educator and actor, Walker is a DJ as well as one half of the Kathy & Kenny Explain Pop Kulture podcast.

Walker most recently appeared at Hickory Community Theatre as Lena Younger in A RAISIN IN THE SUN, for which she won a Kay Award for Outstanding Lead Actress. Walker is also well-known to Theatre Statesville audiences for her performances in such productions as STEEL MAGNOLIAS, THE DIXIE SWIM CLUB, THE ODD COUPLE, and MIRACLE ON 34TH STREET.

Walker appreciates the quality shows and community spirit embodied in HCT, and for the many thought-provoking themes found in this current production.

All remaining performances of BARBECUE are currently SOLD OUT.
