We're Takin' A Flight: Corina Childs plays Nina Rosario in IN THE HEIGHTS

From Lin-Manuel Miranda and Quiara Alegría Hudes comes IN THE HEIGHTS, a moving musical journey that takes place over three days in New York’s Washington Heights neighborhood. Bursting with song and dance, and alive with the pulse of those who dare to dream, the Tony Award-winning musical plays in the Jeffers Theatre at HCT from June 7th through June 29th.

Making her HCT debut as Nina Rosario—"the one who made it out"...or has she?—is Corina Childs. A Charlotte resident, Childs is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of North Carolina-Charlotte while working as a Retail Manager at Altar'd State. Though this is Childs' first show at HCT, she has appeared in multiple productions for Piedmont Players Theater, including PUFFS, RENT and BYE BYE BIRDIE. Other area credits include THE 25TH ANNUAL PUTNAM COUNTY SPELLING BEE for Central Piedmont Arts, and being a Resident Touring Actor for the Children's Theatre of Charlotte.

"This show has always spoken to me and my heritage," says Childs of IN THE HEIGHTS. "I am so happy to be able to play such a big dream role. Nina's story shares similarities to my growing up in a Spanish household."

Performances of IN THE HEIGHTS are Fridays and Saturdays, June 7th through June 29th at 7:30 PM; Sundays, June 16th and June 23rd at 2:30 PM; and, Thursday, June 27th at 7:30 PM. Tickets are $16 for adults, $10 for youth and students.

Tickets are available online at hickorytheatre.org, or by phone at 828-328-2283. The theatre box office is open from 12-5 PM Wednesday through Friday, or one half-hour before a performance.

IN THE HEIGHTS is rated PG-13.

IN THE HEIGHTS is produced in association with Alex Lee, Inc. The Hickory Community Theatre’s 75th season is sponsored by Paramount Automotive, SunBelt Xpress and Green Park Dentistry. HCT is a Funded Affiliate of Arts Culture Catawba and receives additional support from the North Carolina Arts Council, a division of the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources.
