Disasterpiece Theatre: Meet THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG'S Bill Morgan

When things go from bad to worse for Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society’s 1920s murder mystery production, will the cast, crew (and set) make it to the final curtain? The fall-down funny hit comedy THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG runs in the Jeffers Theatre at HCT through April 1st.

Returning to the HCT stage as Chris/Inspector Carter is actor/director/attorney/all-around community pillar Bill Morgan.

Like pop star Britney Spears, Morgan hails from McComb, Mississippi. He earned Bachelor of Arts and Science degrees from Lambuth University, and earned his Juris Doctor degree from Wake Forest University School of Law. When not working in a legal capacity as the founder of Morgan Law, PLLC, Morgan is the Executive Director for the Hickory Playground. If and when he has free time, Morgan enjoys running and playing board games.

Among Morgan's numerous Hickory Community Theatre acting credits are SOMETHING ROTTEN, SPAMALOT, PETER AND THE STARCATCHER, GOD OF CARNAGE, and SINGIN' IN THE RAIN (his HCT debut, and for which he received both a Kay and Metrolina Theatre award). Other area acting credits include: THE COMPLETE WORKS OF WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE (ABRIDGED), THE MYSTERY OF IRMA VEP, SWEENEY TODD, and HAMLET, at the Green Room Community Theatre; and, GREATER TUNA at Foothills Performing Arts. Morgan's area directing credits include TRUE WEST, TIME STANDS STILL and RAMONA QUIMBY at HCT, as well as THE LION, THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE, WEST SIDE STORY, THE DROWSY CHAPERONE, and ALMOST, MAINE at the Green Room Community Theatre. He directed a separate production of ALMOST, MAINE at the SALT Block.

Having previously appeared in the theatrical calamities of NOISES OFF at the Green Room Community Theatre, Morgan was excited at the opportunity to be a part of THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG at HCT. "I am a fan of farces, and thought I would give it a shot." Morgan is succinct in identifying his character Chris' importance in the comedic scheme of the play—"If you can't be evil or goofy, be the straight man."—and in his appreciation of HCT's "long a rich history of presenting a wide variety of productions, and giving."

Performances of THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG are Fridays and Saturdays, March 24th through April 1st at 7:30 PM; Sunday, March 26th at 2:30 PM; and, Thursday, March 30th at 7:30 PM. Tickets are $16 for adults, $10 for youth and students.

Tickets are available online at hickorytheatre.org, or by phone at 828-328-2283. The theatre box office is open from 12-5 PM Wednesday through Friday, or one half-hour before a performance.

THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG is rated G.

THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG is produced in association with CommScope and Green Park Dentistry. The Hickory Community Theatre’s 74th season is sponsored by Paramount Automotive, SunBelt Xpress and Frye Regional Medical Center. HCT is a funded affiliate of the United Arts Council of Catawba County.
