"The Promised Land will not wait for us. We leave our home with faith and trust.
We'll find the place of our destiny, And spread our family seed." So begins THE TRAIL TO OREGON!, the hilarious, historical-ish musical from StarKid Productions. A loving homage to the iconic 1974 video game, this musical adventure blazes a trail of laughter from March 6th through March 21st in the Firemen's Kitchen at HCT.
Returing to HCT in this production as Daughter, is self-proclaimed "theatre nerd" Laura Parker.
A Hickory resident and student at Catawba Valley Community College, Parker made her Hickory Community Theatre debut in last season's WAITRESS. She enjoys creative writing, singing, playing Dungeons & Dragons with friends, and (by her own admission) repeating a joke over and over until at least one person offers her a "pity laugh."
"I love this show," says Parker of THE TRAIL TO OREGON!, "I love the ridiculous humor, the songs, and the surprisingly tender heart at its core. I’ve never been afraid to make a fool of myself on stage, and now I’m just so excited now to say I’m a part of such an amazing production!"
"This is only my second show with [HCT], but everyone has been so warm and welcoming. I've met such kind souls who are very clearly passionate about what they contribute here. Everybody works so hard to create the best show they can, and that's just been so inspiring for me."
Performances of THE TRAIL TO OREGON! are March 6-21; Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 pm, Sundays, March 8 and March 15 at 2:30 pm, and Thursday, March 19 at 7:30 pm. Tickets are $18 for adults and $12 for students. The $12 price is also valid for youth, but PLEASE NOTE that this show is considered suitable for ages 18 and up.
