THE PIRATE QUEEN, a musical saga based on the life of Irish Chieftain and pirate Grace O'Malley, closes out Hickory Community Theatre’s 73rd season June 3rd-18th.
Making her HCT debut in this production is Ensemble member Holli Armstrong.
Hailing originally from Newton but now calling Hickory her home, Armstrong’s theatrical pursuits began in elementary school and haven't slowed since. Among her area credits are STEEL MAGNOLIAS at The Green Room Community Theatre, THE COMEDY OF ERRORS at Lenoir-Rhyne University, A CHRISTMAS CAROL at Theatre Statesville, and THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME at Old Colony Players.
Armstrong’s passion for performance also shows in her cosplay interests—dressing up as, and taking on the personas of characters from history, film, TV, literature and comic books. A machinist by trade, Armstrong is just as happy showing off her skills with a different kind of precision instrument: the yo-yo.
Armstrong is grateful to be part of THE PIRATE QUEEN. She states a “love of all things Irish” as one of her reasons for joining the show. And, as a World Champion Breaker in karate (Boards? Blocks? Barrels of rum?) Armstrong relishes the role of “being a fighting woman” on stage.
Performances of THE PIRATE QUEEN are Fridays and Saturdays, June 3rd through June18th at 7:30 PM; Sunday, June 12th at 2:30 PM; and, Thursday, June 16th at 7:30 PM.
