Charlie Bucket and his family live in poverty. But their fortunes change for the fantastical when a coveted Golden Ticket gets Charlie inside the factory of candy inventor Willy Wonka. A new musical adaptation of Roald Dahl’s masterpiece, CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY is a sweet and salty fable of about doing what's right with life's opportunities. It plays in the Jeffers Theatre at HCT December 6th through December 14th.
Returning to the Pamela Livingstone Stage in this production as Mrs. Teavee—mother to maladjusted son Mike—is Kim Jordan.
Born in Charlotte but now living in Newton, Jordan holds degrees from Appalachian State University, Gardner-Webb University, and Winthrop University. She is the Director of Marketing & Communications for Catawba County Schools, as well as diehard fan of baseball, running, and traveling.
Jordan debuted at Hickory Community Theatre as an Ensemble member in THE DROWSY CHAPERONE. Other area credits include ON GOLDEN POND, TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD, and BRIGHT STAR at The HUB, DISASTER THE MUSICAL at Lincoln Theatre Guild, as well as MAMMA MIA!, 9 TO 5, and HALLELUJAH GIRLS at The Green Room Community Theatre.
Encouraged by friends to audition for CHARLIE & THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY, Jordan is now embracing her nostalgia for the story, and the opportunity to play against type. "I love the idea of playing such an anxiety-ridden mom who uses TV as a babysitter. I'd never do that.'
Performances of CHARLIE & THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY are Fridays and Saturdays, December 6th through December 14th at 7:30PM; Sunday, December 8th at 2:30PM, and, Thursday, December 12th at 7:30PM. Tickets are $18 for adults, $12 for youth and students.
Tickets are available online at hickorytheatre.org, or by phone at 828-328-2283. The theatre box office is open from 12-5 PM Wednesday through Friday, or one half-hour before a performance.
